Collage
The following series began with tape used from painting on canvas. They are studies for future art works and represent a desire to keep the references for the artwork within the artwork. Of course this is a paradox the moment anyone sees them, since the viewer will naturally view the work through their own filters. But the desire to restrain the outward projection of references is a modernistic impulse to make a pure image. As artwork is made from these studies, the tape used for those works will lead to other paintings thereby conceptually narrowing the circle of reference even more.
Works on paper are on 15 x 11 inch Cold Press paper. Acrylic on commercial tape. Dimensions variable.
